This should be interesting to watch. The old ones were shitty contractor's grade, single-pane crap windows. The new ones are triple-pane vinyl etc. etc. etc. All the options. I think the most interesting thing will be to watch the old ones come out. When they are done, my house will look just like this. The salesman told me so.

Actually, I don't think it's as bad as it could be (though it's bad enough). We were approached to be a model home for the neighborhood, and I think we got a decent deal. No way to be sure, though, but we're not paying MSRP.

Did you do replacement or new construction?
![]() 09/02/2014 at 10:47 |

They are custom replacement. So they measured and manufactured to fit.

What kind of windows did you get? Are they just replacement sashes or the whole thing?

The whole enchilada. They will take out the old ones and leave a big hole, then fill the hole with my shiny new windows.

never heard of them. I'm guessing windows are a regional thing maybe? I got Harveys in my living room which suck and a Pella for my kitchen which is beautiful.

According to the salesman, at least, these are every bit as good as Pella and Anderson. They are certainly better than what I have now.

they should be good then. We use anderson's as our standard window to recommend. they are supposed to be low (relative) cost and good looks and reliability. (residential architect) We just has a sales rep come in to show us their doors and windows. One pair of french doors would cost $21k. it was absurd.

Someone just started one last week sometime for Oppo post only, I need to see if I can find it.

Congrats! Good new windows are awesome. I was surprised how much of a difference ours made in the HVAC bills as well as in keeping the house more evenly comfortable. The originals in ours were single pane, metal casing, and interior screw-in storm windows from the previous owner (I don't know what they were thinking).

That is insane for French doors. How big are they? I had a 6' wide Andersen French door put in this summer and I thought those were expensive at ~1/10 that price. But they are damn nice doors, and much better than the ancient falling apart slider that was in there.
